Nicholas Hoult (December 7, 1989) is an English actor whose filmography spans major Hollywood tentpoles and smaller independent dramas and television series. Hoult started his career as a child actor with a role at six years old in the 1996 film "Intimate Relations," before having a breakthrough in the 2002 comedy-drama "About a Boy" opposite Hugh Grant. He found success as a teenager when he was cast as Tony Stonem in the provocative U.K. series "Skins." For his role in Tom Ford's 2009 drama "A Single Man," Hoult received a nomination for the prestigious BAFTA Rising Star Award. He jumped to Hollywood in the 2010 fantasy movie "Clash of the Titans" but experienced his first true taste of blockbuster stardom when he was cast as Hank McCoy/Beast in the 2011 comic book movie "X-Men: First Class." He'd reprise the superhero character in three more standalone "X-Men" sequels. Additional blockbuster roles came courtesy of "Mad Max: Fury Road." Hoult returned to television in 2020 with a role opposite Elle Fanning in Hulu's royal drama comedy "The Great," which ran for three seasons through 2023. He was nominated for the Emmy for outstanding performance by an actor in a comedy series thanks to his role in the series. Additional Hoult credits include "The Menu," "Warm Bodies" and "The Favourite."
